Show all newsRegional Seminar in Teaching and Learning Philosophy
On its third year of existence OLMHTCS hosted its first regional seminar-workshop on September 10, 2011. Designed to bring together philosophy instructors, department heads and students, the seminar-workshop had Prof. Eduardo Jose E. Calasanz, assistant dean for academic affairs at the Ateneo de Manila University, who talked on the teaching and learning of philosophy to 80 participants.
The participants from colleges and universities in Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Iriga City, Legazpi City and Naga City found the seminar-workshop very meaningful, enlightening, fruitful and helpful, not only in the teaching of philosophy, but in doing philosophy as well. They believed that it would help them in designing a new program in presenting subjects in philosophy.
The student participants, composed of the OLMHTCS and SOLT Theology seminarians, meanwhile, said that the seminar-workshop enlightened them on the purpose of philosophy and how it should be studied. Further, it showed them how to apply philosophy in their lives.
Commenting on the venue of the seminar-workshop, a participant wrote that the place was ‘inviting for philosophical reflection...very peaceful”.
A project of the philosophy faculty, the seminar-workshop was conceptualized and implemented by the working committees that included the general education faculty and the seminarians. Other than the objective of being able to contribute to the instructional competence of philosophy instructors, and to the enhancement of the learning skills of philosophy students, it was also intended to introduce the three-year-old college seminary of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity to the Bicol academic community.
