The seminary was among the 20 HEIs that responded to the call of CHEDRO V for a consultative conference on October 28, 2011 at the Madrigal Amphitheater of the Ateneo de Naga University. Dr. Aida Osea, dean of studies, represented the seminary and pledged commitment to quality education, on behalf of Fr. Rogelio Barcelona, SOLT, seminary rector.
Presenting CHED's thrusts and directions, Dr. Freddie Bernal, regional director, explained CHED's strategies and activities which are focused on the key result areas of rationalization of higher education, improving quality and standards, and increasing access to quality higher education.
Among CHED's strategies and activities, as outlined by Dir. Bernal, are aligning higher education with national development goals, developing HEIs typology and mapping of programs, amalgamation of HEIs, moratorium on new HEIs and programs, harmonization of public and private HEIs, expansion of faculty development, phase-out of substandard programs and institutions and aligning Philippine HEI curricula and standards with international benchmarks.
Dr. Belen Azul, chief education program specialist, on her part, reminded the participants on timelines and deadlines for submission of reports and other documents, including those pertinent to NSTP.
More updates were given by the education program specialists of the various programs, particularly on the PSGs and upcoming seminars and conferences.
The pledge of commitment to quality education by the presidents, or their representatives, of the universities and colleges in the cities of Naga and Iriga highlighted the conference.
